Freedom…Or What?

IB is finally over! Today I had my last exam, paper 3 in Chemisty, and from the moment we were asked to stop writing I couldn’t stop smiling. Knowing that all the hard work I put down during these 2 years are finally done and have hopefully paid off…it’s just a great feeling.

Still, I have a hard time grasping what this means. I feel this emptiness inside me and I do not know what to do. I have a list of hundreds of things I want to do, but where to start? I want to spend time outside and enjoy the summer that is coming, read a lot of books, for example Game of thrones, watch tv-series over and over again (I will continue write about the episodes of Criminal Minds and Supernatural where I left off)…maybe the best thing will be to wake up every morning without having any anxiety at all! Well, I needed to start somewhere, so I have now for a while watched all the highlights over and over again from yesterdays hockey game between Sweden and Canada. I love wasting my time on nothing  xD

However, Is this freedom? I love having a schedule to follow and functions best when everything is planed. What happens when I can do whatever I want? honestly, I may regret saying this, but I promises that after a couple of days I will be bored. IB is hell, yes, but it is also so much more. IB prepares you for studies on universities better than most other schools. You know that even though the exam did not go very well you still have learnt a lot. There is a special atmosphere around IB too, it is a community that comes together through this struggle. IB memes are an example of this where they put up jokes about IB that is soooo true, and mostly only IB students understands them. I’m going to miss my classmates a lot since there is a specially type of people choosing IB. No normal or healthy person chose IB freely. So I guess we are a bunch of weirdos, however the smartes and best weirdos I know !

This is another chapter of my life that I’m done with and it’s not going to be easy to leave it. It has given me so many good memories and knowledge. Now I am looking forward to what’s next. In July I will receive the results from exams and also be informed wether I have gotten in to any universities in Sweden. Exciting, Exciting…..I’m so going to watch Supernatural for the whole weekend B)

Mösspåtagning

Today, 30 of April, is the day when everyone are allowed to put on their graduation hats for the first time. According to tradition you should keep the hat on until graduation. However, it is just a tradition not something people actually do (as far as I know). 😉

Putting on the hat is a ceremony that shows that you are done with school and that you can graduate. That is the irony with it since my exams starts on friday and right now I have no idea if I will pass or not (even though I feel quite comfortable and safe with saying that I will at least pass). 17 of May is my last exam and I just want to start taking them in order to fully enjoy the life of a graduate in Sweden! 🙂

Last week another chapter of my life was sealed. I had my last concert in Nacka music school. It was a concert for everyone that graduate from the music school this spring. It felt wonderful to show what I had learnt through  all these years of playing piano, but it was also nice to say that I have accomplished something with my life. Now this chapter is closed (although I will continue play at home) and I can focus on discovering a new part of life. I want to say thank you to my amazing teacher that have made me enjoy playing and helped me to develop my skill.

Studentklänning

My preparations for graduation are moving forward. Today my sister and I went out shopping for dresses. We found one each; one for my graduation and one for here Bachelor’s Degree . Actually, My dress is not a traditional graduations dress you wear in Sweden. They usually are crystal white and have more of a short prom dress look , but I love it and I am so happy that I have a dress now and do not have to worry about that anymore. Also, it is fun to stand out and not have a dress that looks just like the dresses on all the other girls  😀 Studentklänning fram Studentklänning bak

Graduation Hats

Studentmössa 1

Today our graduation hats arrived to school as a reminder of how little time is left of school. Two days ago I had my Swedish individual oral, so now I only have English individual oral left before exams. The time is just running away, soon I will be a graduated student from the “gymnasium”, as it is called in Sweden. 😀

IB exam Graduation is a big deal in Sweden and we celebrate it based on old traditions. The graduation hats is one part of the old traditions; the design has been pretty much the same since the 1900-century. The difference is that today you can spend thousand Swedish crowns on a branded hat with a lot of decorations on it. My hat did not cost that much but it still has a touch of Lovisa in it. For example I chose a pink color on the lining while most students have a blue and yellow inside.

Studentmössa 4

It feels silly to spend too much money on a hat you will wear like two or three times in your life, but it’s a tradition and they are kind of cool. They are very good-looking for being a graduation hat 😛  Other Swedish traditions regarding graduation are:

  • each class has its own truck (we call it flak) and then they take a ride round the city and drink beer and play loud music. (this is not what I look forward to the most :P).
  • the girls should  wear white dresses
  • each class has its own “skiva”, which is a party at a restaurant or a club, which starts with a dinner for parents and siblings and then they go home and your friends arrive. Then the party start.
  • you are not supposed to wear your hat before graduation, if you test the hat you will get bad luck….but everyone still test the hat before graduation once or twice. Guess bad luck is not very freighting.

The funniest part for me, as an IB students, is that I will do all these activities after exams but before I know if I graduated or not. Not until July will the test results be published and I will know whether I passed or not. xD

Studentmössa 3

Now I have spent almost 700 Swedish crowns on my hat, 400 Swedish crowns will the “flak” cost and then I need to by a dress….All this money wasted and then I may end up not graduating. This is going to be fun xD

Studentmössa 2(The light blue color on the ribbon and on the flower is the IB color) ^_^
